Black Butler the Hunt: Finny

As soon as I yelled ‘GO!’ all of us on the prey team ran as fast as we could into the woods. Many of us girls (including me), ripped our shoes off as we ran, because heels and running do not mix; especially in the woods. I sort of just lost myself and run with abandon. I quickly lose track of which direction I am going and just keep on running until I get too tired to go any farther. Luckily, I seem to have found myself near a good sized stream so, I stop and get a drink. The water is cool and refreshing, just what I needed.

I hear a noise off in the distance. “What on earth is that?” I say to myself.  I focus on trying to figure out what the noise is that I don’t realize the noise is now very close to me. Somebody quickly barrels through the tree (taking quite a few out with him) and falls into the creek effectively soaking himself and splashing me with quite a bit of water.

“Oh, no! Sebastian is gonna kill me when he sees this.” the man says sounding frightened. He starts taking off his jacket and shirt obviously not knowing that I was right behind him.

“FINNY!” I yell quickly covering my eyes from his … half-nudeness.

He finally looks back at me and quickly covers himself with his shirt. “What on earth are you doing here?” he asks while blushing like a tomato.

“I stopped here to get a drink because the running got me thirsty.” I explain. “Then I heard a noise and you came barreling out at me.”

“Oh, sorry Ms. –(name)-. I didn’t mean to frighten you.” He then notices that I am almost as soaked as he is. I start shivering as I notice the now freezing cold water seeping into my clothing. He puts his shirt back on and walks over toward where I am standing and drapes his jacket over my shoulders in an attempt to warm me up. “Here, so you can keep warm.”

I blush and gladly accept the jacket. “Thank you, Finny. You are really nice.” The jacket doesn’t really help with the chill but it was still a nice thought at least. I have to be hones, during the case I didn’t get much of a chance to talk to Finny without a thousand other things going on, but I was honestly curious about the amazing strength he used to help protect me when the others were distracted.

Suddenly, I feel a pair of warm arms around my shoulders. I look up quickly and my –(e/c)- meets with his green ones, which are filled with worry. “You still look really cold Ms. –(name)-. Come on let’s get you back to the manor.” With his arms still around me he starts walk me back through the forest. At first I was worried he would grab onto me too tightly and crush me, but he is being really gentle, almost like I would break even if he wasn’t super strong.

Suddenly, we hear a noise off to our left; this one more animal like. A large, obviously starved, black wolf jumps out in front of us growling deeply in its throat and faming saliva dripping from the wolves open jaws. Finny pushes me behind him and crouches slightly as to try and protect me from the beast. He picks up the trunk of a tree that I am pretty sure he knocked down during his run. He and the wolf both seem to be waiting for the right moment to strike. The wolf lunges as fast as it can and Finny throws the tree trunk into the mouth of the wolf and down its throat. The wolf racks it head around and manages to dislodge the log, before running away back into the woods.

I just kind of sit there staring. Finny just protected me. Thank god! Finny turns around and looks at me almost as surprised as I am. I jump up and grab onto his shoulders in a tight embrace. He stiffens for a bit, but quickly relaxes and puts his arms around my back hugging me back. We stay like that for a while just waiting for our senses to return to us. After a while Finny pulls away from me and grabs onto my hand. He quickly leads me out of the forest and to the clearing form before.

“Hey Finny. You don’t look so well.” says Bard as we step out of the tree line. Everyone looks to at us as Finny pulls me over toward where Pluto is sitting by Sebastian.

Finny crouches down in front of Pluto and tells him, “Pluto, there was another wolf in the woods and it tried to hurt Ms. -(name)-.” Pluto looked shocked before becoming very angry, transforming, and running into the forest; most likely in search of the wolf that had trespassed into his territory. Everyone looks shocked; whether it is about Pluto going to hunt another wolf or the sinister tone that Finny had before returning to his normally naïve self.

Sebastian starts asking Finny questions about what happened while Mey-rin comes over and starts leading me back into the manor so that I can get dried. I didn’t even remember I was still wet. Before we get to far away from everyone, I turn around and quickly run back to Finny and give him a kiss on the cheek. “Thank you for protecting me.” I say quickly looking at the ground before darting back, past Mey-rin and into the manor.
